Up until about five years ago, the only time I had ever sung in public was my last year of high school.
I played Rizzo in Grease.

After the ex and I split, I tried something I had never done before.
Karaoke!
And you know what? I LOVED it!
Don't get me wrong, standing up there, looking out at a crowd of expectant faces, knowing I have nowhere near a great voice, I was SCARED!
Freakin' scared!
I'm not a singer. I'm a mom who likes to sing.
But I got up, did it, and had a GREAT time!
It's not something I do on a weekly basis. I don't haunt the local Karaoke bars.
But every few weeks, my partner in crime and I will head out to a spot where (usually) nobody knows us, and sing our little hearts out.
Nobody said we had to SOUND good!
We're not out to be the next Carrie Underwood & Shania.
The only goal we have for one of these Girls Night Out, is to have FUN!
And THAT is something we always manage to do ;-)
Give it a try some night!
The audience is there FOR the Karaoke ... it's OK if you suck!
Besides, you don't have to sound good to have fun with it.

It looks like you had a great time...wait, which one is you?!?
I don't think I could EVER do that. I do SingStar at home...with the stereo turned up and the microphones turned down.
Hey Kim! You sure know the words beter than your friend does. You barely glanced at the screen!I'm actually not familiar with that song so I would have been glued to the lyrics too. HA! Great fun!
You go girl! I'd rather die than sing in public but I am uberly impressed that you do!!

3699 - We always have a ball :-) Some songs we do sound better than others LOL, some we do together, some we do alone.
I actually tried out for Maritime Idol a few years ago, and made it into the 'top three' for two weeks ... but that's another post for another day ;-)
I don't have singstar, but I have a stero in every major room in my house (bathroom too!) and it's constantly CRANKED.
Oh, and I'm the brunette with long hair. The short dark blonde is my best friend of almost 20yrs.
I made sure to strategically give HER the louder mike LMAO!
Bon - It would have been pretty bad if I had to watch the screen, considering it's a song I sing ALL the time in my kitchen LOL.
Cass likes the comfort of having the monitor there ... but she knew the words too ;-)
Hallie - I like to go every few months or so :-) When I'm feeling Rockstarish ;-)
I know my limits. Would NEVER try a Mariah Carrey or Celine song lol.
But I'll tell ya ...when you have a good night, and actually hit all the notes (unlike in our video that night LOL), there's something very cool about having a whole room full of people up dancing to something YOU'RE singing, and then cheering for you at the end ;-)
Yeah, that part's pretty cool.
What? Who said I was a narcissist? Shaddup! ;-p
You got it right - the important thing is to have fun! Now, my voice is so bad that I might have fun but I guarantee that no one else in the room would! I thought you two sounded great - much better than the karoke that I overheard the other night at the chinese restaurant I was having dinner at. They made William Hung sound good!
Evansmom - Thanks very much! The key is ... to make sure we get up AFTER someone who sucks worse than we do ;-) But of course, that's just the luck of the draw, and it backfires on us sometimes too LOL.
And I can honestly say I've never been to a chinese karaoke restaurant ... I'm thinking that could make for 'interesting' dinner music ;-)
